Team: Carol Wersbe, Zoe Sever, Jackie Rotman

Model & Strategy.

Descriptor.

Center for Intimacy Justice (CIJ) is a woman-led nonprofit changing Big Tech platforms’ discriminatory suppression of women and people of underrepresented gender's health information online.

Problem.

Center for Intimacy Justice (CIJ) has revealed that major tech platforms’ content moderation policies block content that support the sexual and reproductive health of women and people of underrepresented genders, despite allowing more information for men’s sexual health and wellness products. Many sexual health issues are linked with mental health, and so this censorship impacts the mental health of young users – as well as the mental health of incredible, oftentimes young content creators who are educating people about sexual health online. Gaps in access to sexual and reproductive health information fuel anxiety, confusion, shame, and self-doubt for young users of social media users, as well as young content creators who fear removal of their content.

Solution.

Center for Intimacy Justice will collect updated data across platforms to understand the current status of online suppression of sexual and reproductive health  information and products on Big Tech platforms (i.e. Meta Google, TikTok, Amazon, and more). By understanding the current landscape of discriminatory content moderation practices on Big Tech platforms, we aim to more profoundly understand and advocate for this issue, supporting policy and narrative change.
